Clockshop’s Kite Festival 2026

It’s a crisp and sunny Saturday in May, I’m sitting on a blanket in the sun surrounded by the colors and movement of a sea of kites. I’ve given up hope that my own, hastily pulled together with scrap materials and no regard for physics, will stay aloft.

And then it hits me— a shark-shaped kite with hard plastic eyes. And I’m grateful, because we are all here outside enjoying this park together: babies in strollers, millennial parents with curated outfits, grandparents tucked away in the shade, and everyone who owns a medium format camera. How beautiful it is to have green spaces in a city known for highways. How lucky we are to be packed into the metro to get here, scoping out each other’s kites and outfits on the walk over.
